Recent files not working

Recent files and locations are stuck on loading. Can I do anything to check what’s wrong? Fedora 40 Kionite

Hi - I can’t reproduce this behavior on my own machine, but looking at KDE’s bug reporting system, at least one other person has mentioned what sounds like the same situation: 495239 – Dolphin gets stuck at "Loading..." after click on "Recent files"

Are you able to see if this behavior still shows up in the latest Dolphin (24.08.3) / KDE Frameworks (6.8.0)?

Hi, I don’t think Fedora 40 supports Kde 6.8, I guess I will need to update to 41 but someone reported Fedora 41 also not working. I cannot include links on this post

Checked processes and this is stuck on cpu 100% /usr/libexec/kf6/kioworker /usr/lib64/qt6/plugins/kf6/kio/recentlyused.so recentlyused

Yep, I’m now able to reproduce a version of this bug as well. If you have any other details that you identify, please feel free to add them to the bug report above so the developers have as much useful info at their disposal as possible to help dig into the issue.

Thanks!

is there anything I can do for retrieving more details?

The only thing that comes to mind is, the original bug reporter and I had slightly different system journal entries for kioworker - it might be helpful to know how the kioworker errors show up for you in the journal to better narrow down what is common across folks experiencing this.

Thanks!

I can only see this when I click on stop, not sure if it helps:

Dec 02 20:17:57 fedora kioworker[123333]: kf.kio.core: Connection::send() called with connection not inited
Dec 02 20:17:57 fedora kioworker[123333]: kf.kio.core: An error occurred during write. The worker terminates now.

Ah - probably no need to add that then as those particular journal messages are already covered in the bug report. Thanks for checking!

maybe worth adding KDE is also on 6.8.0 after last upgrade

Operating System: Fedora Linux 40
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.8.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.11.10-200.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 20 × 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-12700H
Memory: 31.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Graphics
Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
Product Name: XPS 15 9520

by any chance do you know if still happening in 6.9.0? Wondering if worth upgrade to Fedora 41 as this feature is quite important for me

I just checked on my own system, and I do still see this bug with Recent Files when used from the Open File dialog box (it does work OK in Dolphin, though).

For what it’s worth, the Fedora 41 upgrade is likely still worth it though, in my personal opinion as a Fedora user, for the benefits of dnf5 and to be generally closer to current upstream software

thanks but as atomic user not sure if the dnf5 upgrade will affect rpm-ostree.
Regarding the bug, is Dolphin working for you since the upgrade to 41? That at least is something, for me don’t work on both dialog and dolphin itself.
Additional info, I’ve created a new user and it was initially working fine, then after a couple of days stopped working.

I experience the same problem. Plasma 6.2.4 with Frameworks 6.9.0 on Fedora 41.

  • Open File Dialog (as I frequently see it when attaching files in KMail): Recent files take about 5 minutes to appear
    • on a Core Ultra 7 155H with 64 GB RAM
    • /usr/libexec/kf6/kioworker /usr/lib64/qt6/plugins/kf6/recentlyused so ... uses 100% of 1 CPU core during this time
  • Dolphin: Recent files loads within 1-2 seconds

Similar experience here, I had a fresh install of F40 which worked fine, then upgraded to F41 in-place, problem appeared over time.

BTW Upgrade from F40 to F41 went smoothly on my machine with the sole exception of the Nvidia dGPU drivers which I had to re-install. Love my system, it really allows me to be productive during my workday

Hmm, yes that might be a notable difference - the Recent Files view loads in about one second for me in Dolphin, but has the same “stuck loading” situation in the Open File dialog.

Never mind my fedora atomic just imploded due to Btrfs corruption so I might go to install the workstation one as at this point I’m not sure how robust it really is. Never had such experience with ext4, always been able to recover partitions in a way or another

After upgrading to Plasma 6.3.0, Recent Files works again
