Hi there!
I want to use Digikam primarily as a substitute for Windows Fotos Legacy i.e. I want an oveview over all my photos across multiple folders sorted by date.
Windows Fotos:
I found this could be done in Digikam by going to the time line and selecting a year (apparently selecting all time not possible unfortunately).
Digikam:
As you can see, there is a lot of wasted space between the thumbnails even though I hid all the file information, that is usually displayed around the thumbnails. I see that this is mainly because the images are arranged in a grid.
Why not have an option to do it as in Windows Fotos or the flow plugin?
FlowPlugin:
In principle it solves exactly my problem but the plugin is poorly integrated. It opens as another window and you have to manually drag all four edges to fill your screen with it - you cannot double click the window to expand it across the screen! It also reloads all the images making it slow. Also the thumbnails are pixelated because it apperently uses only the thumbnail database. And when you double click one image, it enlarges it but cuts part of the image.
But even without departing from the grid view, the white space in Digikam could be reduced (as you can see in the lower right corner, there is a gap between the two horizonal images). In my screenshot I showed the best case scenario with maximum zoom. When the zoom is reduced, the white space does not scale with the images, s.t. the ratio between used and wasted space gets worse.
Speeking of zoom, it would make sense to instead change the number of images per row. The zoom levels between seem useless to me as they lead to more wasted space.
What do you think?
Thanks for reading.
