Are there any software that works on kde to be remote control from windows?
What about RustDesk? The build-in rdp-server might work too.
The krdp package includes an RDP server for Plasma. Distros should ideally be pre-installing it. With this, you can turn on an RDP server on Plasma and it can be remote-controlled from a Windows RDP client app.
Yes, but there is (was?) a bug in krdp. I can control Linux from Linux and Windows from Linux just fine, but trying to control Linux from Windows gives a black screen.
Though there have been some recent fixes to krdp, I think, and I haven’t tried in a week or two.
KDE Connect can run on Windows, though I haven’t tried it. I use it on android as a remote to plasma.
I didn’t know there was a Windows native KRDP version available. I was trying the Windows built-in RDP client to connect to Fedora KDE. I’ll try it in the next few days then. Thank you!
If you’re okay with using X11 instead of Wayland for your remote session, you can use xrdp.
No go. KDE Connect for Windows has all sorts of options, like Remote Input, Multimedia Control or Use as External Monitor but none of these actually open RDP sessions. Remote Input uses the window as a trackpad and I can see the cursor move on Fedora VM.
Unfortunately, the Windows client still won’t connect:
Yes, I suspect this is Wayland related, that’s what some people say. But I’m on Fedora 43 and switching back to X11 causes all sorts of other issues. I don’t like Wayland at all, I have other problems related to Wayland too, so I’d be happy to switch to X11, but it seems like sticking to X11 is futile and pointless at this time, that’s what some people say ![]()
Ultimately, the goal is to stop using Windows (and I’m far from that still) and then it won’t be a problem as KRDP works between Fedora machines. Until then it would be nice to be able to RDP to Fedora from Windows though.
There are a bunch of remote control applications listed and compared here: Comparison of remote desktop software - Wikipedia
I’m using Remmina which is working between linux (wayland) and windows.
Just a quick clarification for anyone looking to set this up: xrdp is a dedicated Remote Desktop Protocol server specifically for X11 sessions. It allows the native Windows RDP client to connect directly to your Linux desktop. It is a completely separate backend tool from device-integration apps like KDE Connect. If your distro supports an X11 session, xrdp is usually the most frictionless way to connect from Windows.
