Just a small suggestion for moving the cursors section, which currently lives in “Colors & Themes” to the “Mouse & Touchpad section”. It feels out of place in the other Colors & themes section.
It could be in both.
But mostly in ‘theming’ I’d say - already we see ‘effects’ and ‘animations’ are separating, leading to some confusion when looking for ‘animations and effects’… I think simplification is a good thing here.
Perhaps a link to ‘theming’ from the Mouse settings?
I like this better cause anything theming related should be in one section, then links to the components under the theming section in in sections they make sense to be in.
If someone wants to change their cursor, the very first place they’re naturally going to look is Mouse settings, not Colors & Themes.
Yes, cursor packs are technically part of a system’s overall theme, but the cursor is also a direct input device element, just like pointer speed or double-click behavior. It’s something you interact with constantly, and people intuitively associate it with the mouse, not the global theming system.
One’s settings and the other is look and feel, so there’s that.
Maybe I’m confused, but if I open Settings, and type ‘Mouse’ or ‘Cursor’ then I see:
From the days we watched Star Trek and met intelligent computers, we dream about being able to use a word like ‘cursor’ or ‘mouse’ and have the computer somehow figure out what we’re looking for…
Some kind of settings perhaps? This has to be made foolproof, but there are many jokes about this online already:
Forgive me, I’m not being deliberately obtuse here… To be honest, I wouldn’t really think ‘First, I must open the settings application before finding anything’ because we have krunner and the menu…
Plasma search is sometimes buggy - this has been acknowledged:
Annoyingly, ‘curs’ pulls up ‘shortcuts’ and also ‘Colours’ here, but fortunately Cursor Theme did hit the top of my list… also with krunner.
In krunner/menu, results may vary according to USER settings, however… and during the recent debacle, I had to change those to get results more pertinent to my input.
A cursor is both a theming option and a property of the mouse so if a change were to happen it should be that you can change it in both places.
