Twice today, this popped up in my notifications…

Really? KDE have resorted to what appears to be spam pop-ups?

EDIT:

  • OK. So this seems to be some annual thing for donations then? Apologies for the “spam” remark. I’ve never seen this pop-up before and it took me by surprise.

Yep, you haven’t been hacked, it’s a new thing we added in Plasma 6.2. No matter how you interact with it, it’ll go away until the same time next year.

It’s that time of the year again. This is the first time I see this popup.

I already donate to KDE, so seeing this, feels like one of the main reasons I dropped Windows… unwanted popups.

Although it took me a few seconds to discover I can easily disable this, I want to highlight how this behavior can have a negative impact on people choosing KDE Plasma, as their desktop, if it spreads that it contains popups asking for money.

I know it’s a personal opinion. But I don’t like it, and I already support this project.

We don’t have omniscient knowledge of who donated before, sorry.

That’s not true really, actually quite the opposite. You don’t even have to take my word for it, we have a public listing of PayPal donations here. (For reference, December only started today :slight_smile: )
