Safety feature when multiple tabs are open in Dolphin

At present if I click on the close button on the frame of a dolphin window it is closed without question. It would be very nice to have a warning if the dolphin window has multiple tabs (something along the lines of offering “Close”, “Close current tab” and “Cancel”). It can be very annoying to try to reconstruct a window after accidentally clicking close (which is quite easy on a crowded desktop).

Thoughts…

keeping the start up option on “open folders from last time” allows you to close dolphin and re-open it exactly where you left off.

there are also two different tool bar icons you can add to the tool bar that will re-open a tab you closed by mistake, or you can just use ctrl+shift+t

Thanks for replying.

How would that work if I have many Dolphin windows open (on many desktops) most with multiple tabs? The only way I can see to do that would be a kwin option (e.g. in the right button menu) to restore last window closed.

dolphin seems to already remember the state of the last window closed (regardless of desktop instance).

so if i have a 2nd dolphin window open on desktop 2 and close it by accident, when i reopen dolphin on any desktop, it will be in the state of the window i closed.

if i then switch back to the first desktop and close it’s dolphin window, it will re-open with the state that it had before i closed it.

seems pretty robust and oops-proof in my brief testing.

There is no reason in Plasma to have a over crowded desktop between either using virtual desktops, activities, or even both. In my setup I have 5 virtual desktops. Applications, Internet, Dolphin, Spare, Calendar - Zoom. And particular programs set to open on specific desktops only. As for having multiple Dolphin windows open each having a different set of tabs on logon / reboot only one set of tabs will be saved. For instance I have Dolphin added in auto start 3 times cause I always have 3 open. Two with 4 tabs and one with one, but on logon / reboot whichever had focus last is the set of tabs that’s on all 3 dolphin windows when they launch.

Now that said we had in earlier versions of Plasma a tool for being able to place windows for apps in particular positions by dragging the programs window and grid lines would pop up to guide you Also with that when you placed a window or windows (Dolphin in my case) when you relaunched your autostart windows opened in the exact location you had placed them before. Along with this whatever tabs you had for each window in Dolphins case would reopened saving one time having to reopen various tabs again. I believe this was dropped due to issues working with Wayland, but was supposedly being worked on so it can be once again available.

this makes sense and if the potential for activities were fully realized you could theoretically have multiple instances of dolphin open, each saved with their unique configuration, and still survive reboot.

but we are not there yet.
