Scheduled Payments - Cannot Complete Transaction

I’ve been using KMyMoney version Version 5.1.90-12e528e for the last couple of weeks. Today, a couple of scheduled transactions came due. From the Scheduled transaction window, when I select ‘enter’, the window closes but the transaction is not entered into the registry.

The following screen shots illustrate what happens;

After pressing enter, the “Enter Schedule” window closes but the transaction remains in the schedule and nothing is entered into the registry.

What could be causing this?

The problem you report somehow sounds familiar and I think it has been fixed in the meantime. So my first advise would be to update to the latest version and check again. If it still does not work, we’re happy to investigate and fix.

I should have mentioned that I’m running a windows version. I’ve DLed the latest MAster Build (
kmymoney-master-4045-windows-cl-msvc2019-x86_64.exe). Let’s see what happens.

That was short lived!

I’ve run into the same problem. Running KMyMoney Version 5.1.90-4369459 on a Windows 11 PC. Attempting to enter a scheduled transaction - tranaction doesn’t enter.

I’ve not had any success with that approach. I even tried a reinstall of the application. Same results - not able to enter a scheduled bill.

Time to look at some more details: can you please install DebugView++ on your system, start it and then start KMyMoney. Next select the schedule you want to enter but don’t enter it yet. Switch to DebugView++ and clear the output. Then go back to KMyMoney and enter the transaction. What is printed in the DebugView++ window during that time? Can you post that here? Format it as code using the “</>” button for better readability. Thanks in advance.

Ugh, I was able to enter the transaction!

I’ve attached the output. My guess is there’s no value in this log and you’ll want output from when the issue occurs.

I’ll keep an eye on the problem. When it occurs again, I’ll provide a copy of the log.

There is definitely something iregular in the behaviour of scheduled transactions entry happening. I’ll try to report back if I can.

Still on the version specified above.

I started trying to replicate the bug as the first few times I entered the scheduled transactions everything was working as expected. Then it happened, but I did not have Debugview++ running at that point. I tried again the same steps with Dbv++ running but everything worked.
I’ll keep trying again and report back.

Quick update.

Currently on Version 5.1.92-3f8764b, did not have a chance to test on previous versions, however, I was entering a scheduled transaction manually, and initially the behavior was as if the schedule did not process the transaction, meaning after selecting enter next transaction from the context menu, then clicking on Enter from the scheduled transaction details window, the schedule still showed the date of the current transaction. I hesitated for a few seconds before deciding on the next steps, then I decided to try again, and in the split second it took for me to right-click and select Enter next transaction, I saw the schedule actually update and change the date for the next transaction. Then I updated the next transaction (I am 2 days behind) and the update happened as expected.

From this, it appears as if there was a lag before the schedule updated the first time.

I’ll keep investigating.

The issue of a scheduled transaction has popped up again!

The problem occured when I opened KMYMoney, selected a scheduled transaction, edited the amount then went through the steps to enter the transaction. Once all transaction windows close, the transaction still shows in the list of scheduled payments.

Following this behavior, I shut down KMYMoney, started DebugView++ then started KMYMoney. Once loaded, the scheduled transaction appeared in the list. Before entering the transaction, I cleared the DebugView log. As I went through the steps to enter the scheduled item, I could see information appearing in the DebugView log. This time however, the transaction was saved and no longer appeared in the list of scheduled transaction. Urgh!

Reviewing the log, I do see an error. It reads;

I can’t add anything about the Schedules problem, but the Woob (web out of browser) error is harmless. Woob is a python based plugin to extract data from web sites, so even though the compiled part is present, it has to check at run time whether woob itself is actually installed - leading to that error if not.

I’ll add here that nothing out of the ordinary is appearing in DebugView++ when this behaviour happens. It is so random and I use bleeding edge builds, that sometimes I go a few builds without seeing it and when it happens trying to reproduce it is challenging.

@rcblackwell, @tcpsorcerer I think I found it: Once entering a schedule was aborted (canceled) a flag was set, that prevented any other schedule enter operation to be successful until the application was restarted.

Of course this flag only makes sense while a single transaction is processed.

BTW: This would not be visible in the debug output.

The latest (AppImage and Windows) version (build 4284) containing the fix have already been generated :wink:
