For quite some time now the screen sharing portal has been freezing and breaking every time I open it. An driver update to 580 from 570 might have been involved, but to be honest I don’t remember anymore.
Here’s what happens: Whenever I trigger the screen share portal through an application like Firefox or Vesktop, the selection window that opens exclusively features black screens.
It is possible to select a screen, if you are fast enough, at which point the portal establishes a screen share without issue. However, it seems that any prolonged interaction will lead to the portal freezing up, at which point I can only terminate it. (“any prolonged interaction” means hovering over a result, resizing the window, moving the window, or pressing a button)
I have gathered System Logs using KSystemLog of different stages in the process (see the paste bin below) and I am positive the important part is MESA’s “Too many open files” error.
As previously mentioned, I am using an Nvidia graphics card, particularly an RTX 3060 with driver version 580. I am running KDE neon with Plasma 6.5, though the issue first occured in Plasma 6.4. My window manager is Wayland and I am running Linux Kernel 6.14.0-33 at the time of writing.
