Hi - just checking, are you using an X11 or Wayland session? My first thought was the situation described here - 476004 â Spectacle can't screenshot tooltips - where it was an issue of the focus being taken away (thus removing the tooltip) before the screenshot could be taken, and thatâs a limitation when using X11.
If youâre already using Wayland, or if itâs not the focus being taken away, then there might be some further digging
Even with a delay? Or a sleep option? Iâm on x11 and an instant shot doesnât take any tooltip away, never.
For me, I remember that âNo delayâ was not the default. I canât figure out how to screenshot spectacle with spectacle but itâs at the bottom of the options.
You can screenshot spectacle with spectacle. But to screenshot spectacle with a tooltip youâll probably need another.
to capture a tooltip you need to use a delay along with the take a new screenshot button that shows on the main spectacle window after you have evoked spectacle.
depending on how you have spectacle configured under the general tab you may need to actually take a random screenshot in order to evoke the spectacle main window
so the procedure is to
it may take a couple of times to get the timing right
to capture the spectacle window images, just use the default shortcut Meta+Ctrl+Print while you have the cursor over the window to capture.
Pretty sure that you donât, as I mentioned above, I configured mine to have no delay, and it does capture tooltips.
It really doesnât need that elaborate procedure you explained. No timer or practice shot is needed. Just take a normal screenshot like normal, works.
We are just discussing the delay options since dzon mentioned it and something like that could plausibly give means for a tooltip disappear before the shot
The setting to which I refer, appears during taking a screenshot, not in the main window you have captured there. The process to see it would be to press the PrintScreen key, and when you are presented with the rectangle to select, you see a toolbar below the rectangle, and it has a button labelled âOptionsâ. At the bottom there is a delay option.
Iâve just noticed, it is now greyed out when the âCapture On Clickâ option is selected, which mine isâŚso I guess thatâs the new âNo Delayâ.
Anyway, OP has marked this as solved, so I guess dzon was right about the delay thing? yay
i tried the simple way first and it doesnât work on my current system
the tool tip goes away as soon as i hit prt scr and all i can capture is this
which is why i had to resort to the elaborate way
anyway, if the easy way works then itâs a done deal, but i figured the OP already tried that or they wouldnât be asking here.
My Fedora 40 using Wayland. I was testing many times and sometimes catching tooltip
but very rare. Mostly if it is open just moment before end of waiting time
. Very strange. And I catching full screen
.
