"Scroll at Screen Edge" Feature from Cinnamon Desktop Environment in KDE

As someone who has a visual disability, I would like to take my time to thank the KDE developers for moving the Zoom and Magnifier from the Desktop Effects to the Accessibility section of the System Settings. I did not know that I can submit a feature request (or a brainstorm) even though I hesitated about submitting bug reports that relate to accessibility in the GNOME desktop and even the Linux Mint team. Of course, I have not submitted a feature request or a bug report to the Linux Mint team but that’s because I’ve been ignored by GNOME developers.

With that out of the way, I have a feature request for adding in the Scroll at Screen Edge to the Zoom and Magnifier panel, which I feel should go in the “Full Screen” section. Basically, when the feature in Cinnamon desktop environment is switched on, the mouse pointer is kept centered while seeing the black background beyond the desktop. I think it would be better to show a video that I uploaded today over at Odysee (I’m an ex-YouTuber).

I’m not sure how hard this will be to implement, but I’m hoping I would love to have this feature in KDE Plasma 6.6, but if it’s difficult, at least in 6.7. And yeah, I have a visual disability. I was diagnosed with optic nerve hypoplasia since the day I was born and I’m blind in my left eye.

The feature request for Scroll at Screen Edges is submitted to KDE’s Bug Tracker.

Until that feature is added to Plasma, you could try a trick I have been using for years to scroll at the left and right edges of the screen.

I set a vertical Panel at each side. If you don’t plan to use it for Apps, it only needs to be an inch or two high. That leaves all the space from the ends of the Panel, Up or Down (or both) for scrolling.

Adjust the width of the panel to suit the amount of space between the edge of any Maximised App windows and the edge of the screen,

You can place the Panel at any point up or down the side of the screen edges to leave the space where your hand naturally wants to move the mouse. I’ve been scrolling Plasma Desktops that way for years and I can’t imagine not being able to scroll near an edge of the screen to switch.

I’m sure the function will appear in a Plasma update soon - but this option might make life easier just for the moment.

My Panels are overkill (for a reason) but you can see the spaces above and below the Right Panel and above the Left one where I can scroll to swap desktops . .

This would work if games are set to windowed instead of fullscreen. I’m optimistic that strict center tracking mode will be in KDE 6.6.
