Shaking my mouse renders it massive

As https://imgur.com/a/sE0dwth demonstrates:

after updating Fedora’s packages using Plasma Discover, my mouse enlarges every time I shake it. Is this expected? Can it be disabled, if so? I ask because it enables on a few merely fast mouse movements.

Plasma Settings> Accessibility> Shake Cursor.

It’s disturbing and shouldn’t be enabled by default. :man_shrugging:

@medin, thank you!

I agree. Certainly not on an update.

I expected it was a bug because when it enlarges, it doesn’t render at a higher resolution. I thought the mouse icon would be an SVG, but it’s quite obviously being interpolated when it’s upscaled. It’s horrible…

I suppose I should at least be glad to see new accessibility features.

There are much better alternatives to do it.
For example, the effect “Track Mouse” is much better than that blurry zooming.

Luckily, Extend the XCursor theme format to support SVG cursors (#20) · Issues · Plasma / Plasma Breeze visual style · GitLab being recently closed might at least remediate its blurriness, if I’ve interpreted its content correctly. I’m surprised that cursor icons were bitmap.

I had this happen the first time I tried to setup wayland using the Nvidia 545 driver. Just moving the mouse caused it to get bigger and bigger and bigger. The Shake Cursor setting is turned off.

Indeed, the blurriness did appear to be remediated when, on a new installation of Fedora, my brother came to me, exasperated, asking me “Why does my damn cursor keep getting bigger?!” This default should change.
