SHIFT+Click does not select text (CTRL+click does)

Hi,

KILE seems to be breaking a major UI paradigm here on my setup for some reason: SHIFT+Left mouse click does not select the text (the block from where the cursor is → where the cursor was moved), in contrast to any other editor. Any idea why this might be? Can you select with SHIFT+click in the editor? I use this constantly to remove / move large blocks of text around.

The behavior in KILE is a bit peculiar; I can select text in various other means (click + drag mouse, SHITF+cursor keys). When text is selected, if I press SHIFT+LEFT MOUSE the cursor is moved but the selection does not change! I can see this could be neat.

As a workaround, I’ve noticed CTRL+CLICK will do what SHIFT+CLICK does in any other editor.

It’s an odd design choice if this is by design and not a but. Is there an option to change this behavior somewhere I’ve missed?

Shift + Left Mouse Button is used for a feature called Inverse Search.

This lets you click on a PDF, or DVI file in a viewer like Okular and immediately jump to a corresponding LaTeX source code line in Kile.

I don’t see how this is relevan in kile? This has nothing to do with Okular.

Kile’s pdf viewer is okular.

Kile is mostly Kate+Okular+LaTeX compilers.

Maybe there was some incompatibility in the shortcuts between Kate and Okular?

Yup - there are so many combinations it’s hard to calculate. The last big one I discovered was the Alt_S shortcut…

in Konsole, if you want to prepend sudo to the last command, you press AltS

But it doesn’t work with the menu enabled… that’s an accelerator for the Settings menu.

So many times there are reasons to avoid using the ‘normal’ shortcuts (also Ctrl_C/V/X).

But if it doesn’t bother YOUR use case, you can modify them to suit you.
