Double the time spent bug catching/fixing before every release.
KDEnlive is always unstable on major updates, and the situation is normally so bad it takes 2 minor updates to fix, which takes months.
And today an update was distributed through the software manger on ubuntu/debian based distributions: Judging by the posts I’ve seen here and in other places, it broke something at the CORE of the project, causing people to be unable to load any videos into kdenlive.
What is the point of a video editor that can’t open a video? its the most basic, essential feature possible.
Slowdown updates and focus on stability. I’ve used KDEnlive for years now and I’m tired of buggy, unuseable updates.
You need to report this issues to the Linux Mint packagers… you always have the AppImage as fallback. If it works in the AppImage then it is most probably a Mint packaging issue…
If only it was possible to keep copies of every version you’ve ever used for a project, to be able to return to them any time you need to for any reason you need to.
Oh wait! There is! No prizes for not making us repeat ourselves about how.

I’ve been repeating that answer for years now too, and it gets pretty tiring as well.
What is the point of a video editor that can’t open a video?
Yeah, who on earth would hire an editor who doesn’t know how to use their tools? I know exactly what you mean!
I can understand that this can be frustrating, sometimes bugs pass through the cracks. The team is small and all help is welcome for testing before release. Stay tuned for the RC (Release Candidate posts).
Also do note that we have a major release every 4 months, and we have done a pretty good job of having a balance between few new features and bug fixing per release…
Tip: you must also use good production practices and that means never upgrade ANY software during production because you never know what can happen. This also applies for proprietary software.
The version of kdenlive in ubuntu/debian’s repositories is always certainly an older version. It is ubuntu’s job to fix these issues. If they don’t it doesn’t work. They also delay updates. Updates that include bug fixes from KDE.
Test if your issue exists on the latest AppImage before complaining as @frdbr said
