Small issues for a new user

Hi I am new to kdenlive and need help with any of the following issues:

I could not find a way to change how you display the audio wave form thumbnail, it is shown from the middle … I would like it to show up form the bottom so I can clearly see the posses … this was in kdenlive I can see it in the docs but I could not find a way to change it

second problem the razor tool does not snap to the current position of the play head … I just used shift+R which works … yes even when snapping is on

I could not find a way to set the video playback while editing to 60 Fps

I had trouble setting curves up exactly how I would need please add Bazier curves

I am also running into a small gripe where it auto saves a backup every time i run the project … don’t know why could not find a way to stop it … my project folder has like 6 backups and it only does it when it restarts

could not find a way to set the bit rate on export … I know it is there (Quality) but it is not the same as having a number

adding text kinda sucks but i get it, but it still kinda sucks … the project file gets cluttered really quick with them, maybe have two one simple and one advance … idk

the software has a tendency to crash on windows … a simple relatively small asset import (about 100 asset most are images and sfx) crashes the project about 30% of the time

I will keep adding these small grips that lead to clear wins … love the UI scale, love that I can run same project on windows and linux … love the UI customization

Thanks for the amazing free tool

Hi, and welcome to the forum and community.

I am sorry that you prefer the former way of displaying the audio waveform but that recent change was done as part of the overall improvement of handling audio in Kdenlive.
One of the improvements was to implement a zoom function for the audio track. Check the “X1” button in the lower right-hand corner of the audio track header.
And as far as the docs are concerned: We are working on updating the screenshots to the latest version but we are still behind. Sorry for the confusion.

The Razor Tool does not snap to the playhead, just like the playhead doesn’t snap to any object in the timeline when moved with the mouse. That is per design.

Playback fps is tied to the project’s fps settings, so if the project is set to 30fps playback is 30fps and cannot be changed.

There is a Bezier Curves effects that has this capability; the Curves effect doesn’t have the additional handles, though. Not sure whether this is what you meant …

Kdenlive creates backups in that manner only if the project file structure changes. I am wondering why this happens every time you open the same project.

If you want to have that fine a control over the settings, you can create your own render preset and put the bit rate parameter in there.

The title editor is quite powerful, imo, and I don’t see how adding text in a different way avoids the clutter in the project bin. Do you know that you can have folders in the bin and even separate bins?

Please report such crashes via the official bug tracker (instructions here). That’s the only way the dev team can do something about it: knowing about the crashes and trying to replicate it for troubleshooting.

Glad you like it and that it helps you being creative

Thanks for the replay … the audio bit wasted some time and the X1 is not a real solution but I managed to move on pass it …

razor tool not snapping to the play head is annoying but the play head not snapping to stuff is much more annoying work around is using alt+arrows but man it is rough having to remove your hand from the mouse ever time to get to those arrows

I did test with project settings set to 60Fps and i am sure that I am still getting 30fps play back … tested with a custom test clip to be 100% sure

yes full handle control using the mouse on both sides with the ability to split the curve (just like any pin tool) and I did find that with a color correction effect but no in the transform

the over backups are happening because my duel boot setup … and I am ok with that especially because it auto locates the media on both sides … but it keeps doing that even if I restart it from the same OS after saving

the crashes happened on linux mint as well … it is so random sometime I can point to my system because I am running an llm at the same time on the GPU (still though) some times because software lags and I check if my mouse is moving and I over shoot a value to oblivion (even this should not ) and some time is because of sleep as restart … and of course speed shifting clips ( as you do in editing )

an new small HUGE grip I found is importing images to the time line that are bigger than the time line resolution … they get down scaled the worst way possible (nearest pixel) and the quality looks so bad … this made me give on and switch software (it was worst on the other side)

I found a very very Jank solution by turning the default transform that gets added on by default, making the scale very big … then adding another scale effect which can scale it down without the pixelation …
