I have an issue that cropped up with, I believe, Plasma 6.2 that has been driving me crazy and wanted to see what folks here think. When my display go to stand by, one of my monitors “turns off” from the PC perspective. I’ll refer to that monitor as Display 1 for discussion purposes.
When I wake my monitors up (PC does not go to sleep only monitors to go standby on idle), some of the tiled Windows on Monitor 1 and no longer tiled and also move. I have attached some photos to demonstrate it visually.
The first image is what it looks like before going to stand by. I added blue borders so you can see the monitor boundaries very clearly). Take note of Window 1 and Window 2 on the bottom 32:9 aspect ratio monitor.
After I wake the machine up, you can see that Windows 1 and 2 are no longer tiled. Their dimensions have returned to the non-tiled size and their positions have changed. However, the Window tiled in the center of monitor 1 has not moved at all. Window 1 has actually moved behind the untouched Window. I tried to highlight where you can somewhat see it’s title bar with a red circle.
Hi! I don’t have multiple monitors connected to my device, but for what it’s worth, the issue you’re describing sounds like it might share a root cause with one of these bugs reported in the KDE Bugtracking System:
Thanks for the response and suggestion about potentially related bugs!
I looked at both of them (as well as a linked discussion in the bug). After reading through them, I don’t think the first one, 473680, is related. In my case, the tiling settings are always retained. I am also not using a custom tiling layout. I am only using one of the built-in template options. And that persists across the monitor suspend.
The only issue in my case is that some of the windows to not retain their tiling information (size and location) after a monitor suspend.
The second bug, 486055, could potentially be related I think. Though, the circumstances are slightly different. Perhaps, the disconnect of the external monitor is creating a similar situation to when my bottom monitor suspends? Unfortunately, there is not much discussion on the bug even though it is approaching 1 year old.
Regardless, thanks again for finding and sharing those bugs!
