Well… I’ve been using Kdenlive for a while, and it’s excellent, but it lacks some features that I’d have in other paid video editors. Some are:
bezier curves for keyframe animations
easier plugin installations (my potato pc can’t download plugins without a thousand errors and manual coding, which still fails, so it would be a HUGE help from the devs if they could add a separate downloadable version where plugins are pre-installed)
some more editing features on texts, which make them look good
shapes tab for motion graphics
And I guess that’s it… I just pursue editing as a hobby for now, but I’ll soon be using it for professional purposes. If the devs hear me out, I’m more than happy
cant login on the bug tracker (i signed in with google here), so i will just continue posting my suggestions here. i got some more in my head right now:
stretch images (like the image remains the same and only its size changes in transform, so stretching images to fit the project size is maybe a good thing)
text to speech (not the robotic kind, the kind which you’d find on websites)
yeah… ig thats it
Not a good idea to ignore the bug tracker. You need your own account there (Bugzilla is old technology but it is what it is), but it’s the only place for feature requests for now.
i mean… my email is linked to google and it dosnt have google login unlike here… actually can u do me a favour? post it on bug tracker on my behalf.
more suggestions: preview window. its like a fullscreen mode which lets you see your edited video in full screen before rendering. what i ask to make it the best is whenever an object is selected, you see the timeline in bottom with all effects and keyframes and all that, to edit it right there in full screen… its awesome but will take a lot of time… so yeah
Sorry, but I am not your typist nor do I have the time for that.
Already exists: press F11 when hovering over the project monitor. You can even move that to another monitor if you have one attached.
The upcoming 25.12 release will introduce a new widget docking system that would allow to arrange the project monitor and the timeline like you described.
Kdenlive uses the MLT Framework for all track compositing, filter/effect application, and transitions/compositions. That is where the heavy lifting takes place and a GPU may come in handy. There are discussions ongoing to enable GPU support for this Kdenlive-MLT cooperation, but given the size of the teams of volunteers things are moving not as fast as the users may like it. GPU support for encoding (the last part of the rendering process) is already available by selecting the appropriate render preset/profile.
When applying effects and compositing tracks, certain things can only be done in sequence, so fanning out computing tasks to be done in parallel doesn’t always work.
