Sorting by Recording Date

Hello,
digikam currently supports two date based methods for sorting images in the view. Creation date and Modification date. I do not actually know, but I guess these are just the filesystem dates of each image.

With digikam being a photo management software and all, I would like the Recording date (as stored by the camera itself) to be added as an additional option. This date should be read from the meta data and not from the filesystem. In cases there is no recording date in the meta data, the filesystem Creation date may be used instead.

I strongly agree. I’m currently encountering a similar confusion. I initially thought it was due to the loss of EXIF data in my photos. Later, I found that even in Windows File Explorer, the “Date Taken” column and “Date Created” column are displayed correctly. Since I don’t enjoy photo editing, I’m currently temporarily using the “Modify Date” as the shooting date for sorting. I hope developers can consider this request, thanks!
