Sound indicator icon more precise?

In my browser, when a tab is emitting sound, the browser highlights the tab with a little speaker icon. KDE does the same thing within the task switcher, highlighting the button for a window with a little speaker icon if the corresponding process is producing sound – except that it appears that the level of granularity is the entire process, so when my browser has a bunch of windows open, any time any tab starts emitting sound, all of the browser’s buttons in the KDE task switcher get a speaker icon. Is there any way to improve the precision of this? Off the top of my head, if each of the windows were a different process, then it’d just automatically work. Dunno if Chromium supports that, though… If there’s no system-level way to do this, then hypothetically to support it would require cooperation between the applications and the window manager – applications would have to explicitly tell the window manager that such-and-such window was the source for sound, so that if the process has multiple windows, only that window gets highlighted. That’d be a major change and possibly hard to get people to opt into… I have no idea how that would work, and presumably it’d be a different extension for X and for Wayland, and Wayland would probably refuse to implement it. :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t like the way it is right now, though. :frowning:

Since I group my tasks I forgot about it but I know this bug was around at least three years ago. It’s not chromium though, happens with all browsers and even some apps.
Only one FF playing audio ( set it to ungrouped for the sake of it)

Hi - for what it’s worth, the following looks like the report being used for this issue in the KDE Bugtracking System: 375943 – With non-grouped windows, audio icon shown on all windows sharing a PID and parent program, not just the window actually playing sound

You can add yourself to the CC list in Bugzilla to get email notifications whenever new comments are added to that report, or when the status is changed. Making sure the “Add me to CC list” option is checked, then choosing “Save Changes”, will add you
