I don’t know if this is a feature request or if it’s simply my fault for not finding it before, but I think it would be nice to have a graphical shortcut for Spectacle in the notification bar or something similar (like in GNOME) to make it clear.
Imagine having a 2-in-1 laptop and needing to take a screenshot; I think it would be more productive to have quick access instead of opening the maliit keyboard and searching for Spectacle in the app list.
Had a quick look through KDE gitlab and found this which might be relevant for your query.
“Print screen” and “Meta” shortcuts might work well for anything with a keyboard or a regular laptop, but something like a 2-in-1 or a tablet interface is going to need to change how spectacle is launched.
i’m gonna disagree a little bit with Nate and say that the HIG guidance allows for an opt-in tray icon, and then also agree with Nate when he says it should be handled within spectacle.
spectacle should offer an opt-in tray icon that users can access without the need for a shortcut key bind.
and perhaps at the same time streamline the print screen shortcut to afford a menu of all the capture options without having to remember half a dozen variants on the shortcut.
that said, i would not want to eliminate the half dozen shortcuts for those who are already used to them or have customized them to their needs.
this definitely falls into the feature request category, and i’m moving this to brainstorm.
