Speeding up video crops sequence of pictures

I am creating a timelapse video. This video is composed of 1000 JPEG clips.

When I add them to the movie track they display the first and last thumbnail picture of the total sequence. If them play them in the monitor they run through picture-by-picture.

The total size of the timelapse is around 33 seconds.

When I go to speed up the video to 200% the total sequence now collapses to around 16 seconds; again showing the first and last thumbnail of the total sequence.

However, this time if I playback the video through the monitor it only shows me half of the total sequence.

So speeding up the video by x2 only plays back half of the actual sequence. But the thumbnails imply that I should be able to view the whole video at twice the speed.

Am I missing something here? The only way I seem to get round it is by exporting the non-speeded-up sequence to MP4, re-importing it as a clip and then speeding it up which then shows the whole video at twice the speed.

I am using Kdenlive 24.08.1 and am very new to this tool so I might be misunderstanding a few things here.

Any help with this much appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to the forum and community.

This sounds like a bug, and I recommend to report it here. Before you do, please test whether putting the image sequence into a sequence and then speeding up the sequence works. It would just be a workaround but is still worth trying.

Hi Berndmj,

Many thanks. When you say “putting the image sequence into a sequence” do you mean like in the screenshot?

Close

You need to create a new sequence. Add a color clip to the timeline right after the image sequence (Kdenlive needs at least 2 clips to create a new sequence), then select both, and right-click Add selected clips to sequence. More details in the Kdenlive documentation.

This adds Sequence 2 (Sequence 1 is always the main sequence or timeline) to the Project Bin under the folder Sequences, and to the timeline. It also adds a tab to the timeline. Go there, and delete the color clip. Go back to the main timeline and now you should be able to speed change Sequence 2 that contains your image sequence.
