Stop asking me to transcode!

Every time I import any clip it asks me to transcode because of variable framerates. That is what phones these days produce. I always choose cancel and have never had any issues with audio desync ever. I get this message from OBS recordings and Twitch recordings. Sony Vegas and ffmpeg never complained.

Others may have, though. And as soon as you use effects with keyframes issues may start coming up.

For you it’s “just” a click, for others it may be a lot of wasted time and effort once they find out things are getting out of sync or effects not working as expected.

Sony Vegas never complained that much.
My understanding is that the kdenlive transcode process will lose clip quality or have a massive lossless file, before the final render. You could say the quality loss isn’t much, but on principle I think a video editor should work with the source clips in as high quality as possible.

That may be the case but Kdenlive is not Sony Vegas.

It shouldn’t be that bad if you chose one of the I-frame only options

And that’s what Kdenlive does. But VFR sources make it difficult if not downright impossible to work with, hence the need to transcode. If you don’t need keyframes you may get away with not transcoding.
