So generally capturing the screen in plasma 6 wayland pipewire results in a very annoying stutter here. Tested with OBS and Spectacle.
The actual screen is butter smooth. In the case of OBS the preview itself already shows the stutter, no recording taxing the system in any way is required.
Example (60fps screen, 60fps recording, Intel Arc card, recorded from FF fullscreen):
If you look on the bar in the middle row you can easily observe it jumping.
Anything that can be done on my side? Is there already something in the (upstream) pipeline addressing this? Should this be filed as a bug report?
edit: fixed Recording link
Still an issue. Here another example: https://files.catbox.moe/ebaj7h.mkv
The game on screen is butter smooth, not a single jitter in the framegraph either, resource usage is pretty mid. But the pipewire capture stutters (this is of course a recording, but without any recording/encoding just the preview in e.g. OBS stutters).
At this point I’m just curious if that is the state of affairs and a software issue. Or could it be solved by buying more powerful hardware. Or something else …?
Kwin Wayland, Arch.
If you can also reproduce the stutter in a different app, then please make a bug report about this for KWin at bugs.kde.org. If not, then make it for obs

Thanks. I found GPU Screen Recorder which offers a different capture option than pipewire-portal, and that option works. But as soon that uses pipewire-portal the stutters are back.

I’m going to file a bug later.
