Hi!
I’m experiencing an issue where my system suddenly freezes for a moment and then recovers. This started after the Plasma 6 update. I checked my memory usage it was nowhere near 100% so the system shouldn’t be running our of memory. I’ve had this happen for example while scrolling through news articles, typing commands to the terminal, writing… etc. It can happen anytime regardless of the system load. I didn’t see any helpful information in journalctl.
Similar problem, so I think adding in a reply would be justified instead of a new post. My OS runs on these hardwares-
Intel Core i3-4130
4 GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4400
while it does run smooth and optimal for 10 mins prior to startup, it starts lagging after a short while, even completely freezing the processes at one point. I am running the latest version of KDE Neon and Plasma.
In case relevant, Usual apps are Discord, Spotify and two tabs of browser.
Some users have used a workaround for this (or similar effects) by switching to the X11 session instead of using Wayland.
This is possible e.g. at the log-in screen in the lower left corner where you can choose the session type.
Same issue with occasional stuttering in a KDE Neon after updating to 6.0 and switching to Wayland, even though overall the system became significantly faster.
Yes. I’m also suspecting that it could be related to the other Wayland problems. Something is not working right with it and it’s causing the display server to crash from time to time and not show the graphics correctly…
So the problem lies with the new major update, I don’t know if this is really the issue, but sometimes when the screen gets frozen, the window loses focus and stops taking any clicks to it’s elements. Sometimes it all went smoothly when I clicked the border of the window.
Now, I switched to BigLinux to test things out, BigLinux uses 5.2.x Plasma version with Manjaro. It has lightning fast responses and works like a proper desktop.
There were supposed to be fixes in the 6.0.x version patches, but am not sure, I couldn’t install them through the software updater, do I need to run a clean install everytime a new version comes?
I applied the updates that the system notification suggested.
nothing else to do?
nothing proposed with this command
sudo pkcon refresh

I installed system update to Plasma 6.0.2 and after all day working/using - there is no freezing any more. But I use X11 session, I don’t use Wayland session because its messing with apps windows started from saved session. X11 session remembers correctly running apps and their windows sizes and locations on the screens (I use external monitor connected to my laptop).
