Hi,
I’m using KDE Plasma since 2020 and it has became my preferred DE. I have a DELL G3 15 3590 laptop with muxless Nvidia Optimus technology. My iGPU is an Intel CoffeeLake-H GT2 [UHD Graphics 630] card and my dGPU is an NVIDIA TU116M [GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Mobile] card. The laptop monitor is wired to iGPU and the external monitor via HDMI is wired to dGPU. Most of the cases I use the laptop with the external monitor only (lid is closed), but sometimes I use the eDP as well. I use workspace switcher on the taskbar with 4 workspaces.
During the last (almost) 1 year I already could use the laptop on Wayland until Plasma version 6.6.4. Then the situation became a bit strange. First of all, in Control Panel/Power Management the laptop closing event is set to “Do Nothing”, it is one of the first things after a fresh install. ![]()
So, every time when I close the laptop lid, the previews of the opened programs disappear from the workspaces on taskbar. If the program is a wine app, the mouse cursor disappears as well. When I open the lid, everything will be fine again.
This behavior was the same on EndeavourOS KDE (Plasma 6.6.4 and 6.6.5), and on Kubuntu 26.04 LTS (Plasma 6.6.4) and Ubuntu Studio 26.04 LTS (Plasma 6.6.4). On EndeavourOS I’ve tried with the latest kernel, the lts kernel and the zen kernel as well. I’ve tried it with nvidia-open, nvidia-open-dkms (v595 both) , nvidia-580xx-dkms (AUR) on EndeavourOS and with the closed/open stock (v580 and v595) *buntu drivers.
The behaviour is the same even the iGPU or the dGPU is the renderer. I have only workaround it:
- Setting KWIN_DRM_DEVICES=/dev/dri/card1:/dev/dri/card0 in /etc/environment (but I can’t use the eDP this way)
- switch to X11 session (yes, no problem with it on X11)
I’ve tried it with GNOME Wayland (Ubuntu 26.04. LTS) but there was no similar bugs. Gnome only has one big bug for me: it is not KDE Plasma. ![]()
Do you have any idea on this situation? Will it be ok on Plasma 6.7 or later?
Thank you very much!
