This could be related to the issue discussed in GTK3 apps no longer have antialiasing on Neon, and the related bug report here.
For me forcing an application to run under XWayland (by editing the application launcher and adding the environment setting WAYLAND_DISPLAY=) works around most of those problems (and introduces new ones instead
