I’m running Fedora 43, Plasma 6.5.4, kernel 6.18.3. The display defaults to portrait mode when booting, unplugging an external display, or opening the lid with an external display connected.
I have to keep orientation set to Automatic with the “only in tablet mode” box unchecked, because if that box is checked, it sticks in portrait mode while using the laptop normally and only goes into landscape when folded.
What can be done to fix? Having the laptop trying to go sideways all the time is, of coure, annoying.
