This week in KDE: real fake session restore

Welp, the mega-release is pretty much carved in stone now, and set for a release in four days! Lots of people have worked really hard on it for over a year, and we hope you love it! Nevertheless, I’m sure our diligent QA-obsessed users will waste no time in finding all the issues we missed, and we’ll work as hard as we can to fix them.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://pointieststick.com/2024/02/23/this-week-in-kde-real-fake-session-restore/

Will the Wayland (real fake) session restore be backported to 5.27 or 5.25, where X11 (real fake) session restore is working as well?

I don’t think wayland works well in Plasma 5 at all. It lacks a lot of essentials stuff and it’s probably a good idea to stick to X11 in Plasma 5

For me it work well with nuoveau on an old formerly running nvidia390 graphics card 2012 laptop & Debian based.

New features are only added in feature releases. Backports are only done for bugfixes. Wayland fake session restore will not be backported to 5.25, 5.27 or even 6.0.

I’ve noticed that if I have only dolphin windows open and click save session on the application menu sometimes when I reboot my browser will also launch. I honestly don’t understand this behavior. The first couple of times it happened I thought I might have had the browser minimized, so I made absolutely sure after that to make sure only the Dolphin windows I wanted to relaunch were open before clicking save session. Any thoughts? Thanks
