This Week in Plasma: lots of cool stuff - KDE Blogs

Welcome to a new issue of This Week in Plasma!

This week saw quite a lot of feature work and user interface polish for Plasma 6.6! Have a look:

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://blogs.kde.org/2025/11/29/this-week-in-plasma-lots-of-cool-stuff

Great work! Can anyone tell me if KDE Linux is a Rick rolling distro?

What I can tell you: once you start using KDE Linux, you’re never gonna give it up.

Reverted a change made a few months ago that hid .desktop files with NoDisplay=false set on them from apps’ “Open with” menus. While the original change seemed technically correct, it had negative side effects outweighing its advantages. (Nate Graham, link)

Ahh. So this is why I suddenly can’t find rpgmakerlinux-cicpsoff in my Open With menu but it’s still set as secondary open option (so I can use it with middle-click). Thank god it’s reverted. I’ll have to see if I will get it on NixOS 25.11 because it is an annoyance for me.

Indeed, because they will never let you down.

When I started using Linux in 2010, I was tempted by Gnome.

But since Gnome Shell was behind schedule, I figured I’d just start with KDE and then switch to Gnome without any regrets.

Well, I’ve never regretted trying KDE first!

Like fine wine, KDE just keeps getting better with age.

As a window hoarder, I’d like to see the “screen & window chooser dialog” to have a filter bar for allowing to more quickly identify the desired window.

A feature I actually like about MS Teams on Win is the fact, that each entry in the panel’s windows list gets a “share" button as soon as there’s an ongoing call.

Oh, that’s a good idea! Please submit a bug report/feature request using https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xdg-desktop-portal-kde

The other one is a good idea too.

Looking great!. Please continue the good work, been using KDE for years and I love it, I will be contributing to the 2025 fundraiser soon (and spread the word)

I guess I’m the exception but after using KDE & Plasma & (Open)Suse since 2003, I recently made the switch to Linux Mint & Cinnamon (both at home and at work).

I do prefer KDE applications so I used the command

sudo apt install dolphin dolphin-plugins okular konsole kate gwenview okteta kde-spectacle kcolorchooser kruler kcalc kolourpaint ark 7zip qt5ct

And now I have the best of two worlds: KDE applications and an easy to use distro & desktop that will support X11 for a long time.
