Thought bubble in kdenlive

I want to be able to put a Thought Bubble in a video: those graphics that show what a person is thinking.

Everything in the Thought Bubble will be completely filled with an image that the user is thinking of. Outside the bubble, I want the video of the person thinking to be showing, so I don’t want things outside the Thought Bubble to be blocked. I want to show about 7 or 8 images in the Thought Bubble, playing one after the other, showing the user’s thoughts.

Am I right in saying that the best way of doing this is to make separate Thought Bubbles (each with their own image) in Gimp and just import them in the timeline, or is there a faster way using kdenlive’s features (which admittedly I am not very advanced with)?

You can use Glaxnimate to create the thought bubbles. If you do so it updates the Glaxnimate animation direct in Kdenlive and you see a Kdenlive timeline preview in Glaxnimate.

Otherwise your approach via GIMP is correct.

You could also create the bubble in Gimp and give it a green area where the images should appear. Then use the Chromakey effect in Kdenlive to replace it with the images. Put the bubble image on V3, the images on V2, and the video of the person on V1. The clip with the bubble should span all the images on V2, so that when played the images show up through the green part in whatever succession and speed (= duration of the image clip) you set.

Very good ideas. Thanks guys.
