Three questions regarding Plasma Desktop

I have had a Plasma desktop before, so I know that what I’m asking is indeed possible, but I don’t remember how I got it set up on my previous Plasma.

KDE Plasma version: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks version: 5.103.0

  1. This is my taskbar. The area that I’ve marked as red on the image is not interactive - there is blank space between the buttons and the screen’s border. How can I remove that blank space?

  1. This is the application launcher. I’ve used to have a simple drop-down list of apps I’ve marked as Favorite. It did not have “all applications”, application types, and “places”. How can I make it so it would only show a list of Favorited apps? I’ve already checked two other available “alternatives” and they are nothing like that.

  2. How do I install stuff from kde store? After clicking “install”, there is a 5 seconds wait, then nothing happens. Downloading something just downloads an archive file.

welcome, i’ll try to point you in the right direction.

  1. not quite sure what you are asking, there is built in padding around the icons in taskbar, and this problem seems more likely to be an issue with the theme you are using… if you try switching back to breeze, do you still have an issue?
  2. i think what you want to do is right click on the launcher and show alternatives, then choose the application menu. instead… it’s more compact and includes a bar with pinned favorites for easy access to items you don’t want pined to your task bar (that’s what i use).
  3. the store has been problematic lately, there is a chance you may need to edit a file which seemed to work for some, Global Theme: All Categories Missing - #43 by GoldBarb

Hi! On that first question, is that panel that you’re using for your taskbar perhaps set as a “Floating” one? (Right-clicking the panel and choosing Show Panel Configuration should show that option)

  1. Thank you, that indeed seemed like an issue with the theme. Switched to another theme and now there is no empty blank unclickable space!
  2. Figured out my old style of the applications launcher was forcibly switched, old ones looked like images on Manjaro forum thread “how-to-change-the-application-launcher-layout-in-kde” (this forum doesn’t allow to include links!)

    . Thankfully, they also have a guide on how to change it back.
  3. I suppose that in order to install stuff from KDE store, I need pling-store or ocs-url.

it looks like this is what you want, but it hasn’t been maintained for over 4yrs

but it still works on my plasma5 pc

go to add widgets > get new widgets and search for “legacy application launcher”, then install it.

once installed you will be able to add that widget to your desktop or panel, and remove the default one.
