Two questions about mouse input

I have been using my Razer deathadder v3 gaming mouse since installing Kubuntu 24.04. The mouse is set at a high DPI for the advantages that it offers in gaming, and thanks to the openrazer project drivers everything feels great in game. However, in the desktop environment the mouse is far too fast even at the lowest setting that Plasma’s mouse sensitivity slider offers. Changing the DPI settings for the mouse when entering, and exiting games would be a hassle. I want to set it all, and forget it.

The second problem I’m having is that in the Discord app middle mouse click is set to paste the clipboard. I can’t figure out how to set this back to scroll direction like in all the other apps. Discord doesn’t have a setting for this, and I don’t see anything in KDE Plasma’s settings either. I was told this is an old Linux UX thing. I’d like to not accidentally paste a critical password into the Discord chatbox if possible.

Thanks in advance for any info you can share.

In the Wayland session, you can disable middle-click paste on System Settings’ General Behavior page. Using Wayland may also fix the mouse speed issue if you’re using scaling at all.

Interesting. I’ve tried using wayland, but I don’t think Kubuntu supports it yet. I installed it through the command line, but when I logged into the wayland desktop I got a black screen with a floating Firefox window. It took me forever to figure out how to safely reboot. lol

I should have mentioned that I’m on KDE Plasma 5.27.11 and KDE framework 5.115.0 in Kubuntu, so I don’t have the latest toys.
