Unable to access NAS

I’m using a brand new install of Arch and trying to connect to my NAS which I’ve already connected to on Windows and Mac.

When I enter “smb://nas/share” I got “Communication with the local password server failed” there is no prompt to put in a username or password

When looking this up I assumed it’s a KDE Wallet issue or some service issue in Dolphin. But I can’t for the life of me find any settings or configs that link the two. So idk…

I have samba share, kde wallet, avahi all installed. I can’t find an issue with everything I search about this error.

Some suggestions:

  • Do you have an /etc/samba/smb.conf on your Arch system? The samba package on Arch doesn’t provide one but it’s needed for the client to work. An empty one is OK if you don’t want to share anything from that system.

  • Did you enable & start avahi-daemon.service?

  • Try the Arch Wiki

I figured it out. I installed dolphin with discover originally and found out discover isn’t the best way to install things for Arch.

I installed with pacman and dolphin now connects to the smb with a login prompt no problem.
