Use the webcam as a microphone only?

In Kubuntu, can you only use the webcam as a microphone?

I’m using the Logitech C615 (V4L2) webcam.

I’d like to use the microphone to enter commands.

Your mic should show up as a separate device in the audio widget. it’s not tied to the webcam so using it by itself does not turn the webcam on or anything.
