Viewing Network Devices in Dolphin

I have recently installed Ubuntu Studio and really excited about my first experience with Linux/Ubuntu etc. I have a number of existing networked devices at home, all of which show up fine in the Dolphin file manager. These devices are primarily RaspberryPi devices with SMB installed and their attached drives are accessible througn Dolphin without issue. I have an older machine running Ubuntu Server which does not show up automatically when I select the Network option in the left-hand panel. However, if I type in the smb:// address, I can access the device and it’s attached storage devices, and add to places. I have looked at various historic topics but none seem to offer a possible explanation for this. The Ubuntu Studio is installed on VMWare. Here’s hoping that someone might be able to offer an explanation for this to a real beginner in this Ubuntu Studio world. Thanks, Martin

Hi Martin

Is the avahi-daemon package installed on the Ubuntu Server?

Hi Paul, It was not installed, but it’s installation has resolved the issue for me. Thank you so much for your reply and the solution. Great stuff, and I’m one happy Welshman this evening. All the best, Martin
