Wayland and Docks

I’m rather confused about this. I have Wayland and Cairo Dock 3.6.2 working fine on Manjaro Linux (kernel 6.18.39) using KDE Plasma 6.7.3.

However, on Kubuntu distro 26.04, using KDE Plasma 6.6.5 and Wayland, although Cairo Dock 3.5.1 seems to install OK, running it produces a segmentation fault. Uninstalled it and re-installed it, but still the same issue. On my previous version of Kubuntu (24.04) I had KDE Plasma 5.27. Running Cairo Dock in Wayland caused no issue then. I still have kept an image of my previous Kubuntu version so I could roll back to it.

Any ideas please about how to fix.

The segfault usually means there is a bug in the software.

Likely the software needs porting to newer kde/qt libs.

You could report the bug to the cairo dock developers.

I’m not sure there is a bug in the Cairo Dock software, as it runs fine in both Manjaro and Endeavour OS with KDE Plasma with Wayland.

Sorry that is not the how software works.

The fact it work on a completely different OS does not mean it will everywhere.

The segfault proves there is a bug.
