Wayland lockscreen virtual keyboard bug

Can anyone confirm if you are (or aren’t) affected by bug #467209?

Before I knew about that bug report (~1 month ago), I asked about this bug on IRC. Someone replied that they weren’t affected (which I find surprising); however, I now suspect that they misunderstood my question.

I’m asking because I’m working on a lockscreen-related MR, and I need to know if it is possible to test the virtual keyboard on Wayland, without the need to have a touchscreen device.

You might have success to open the keyboard after clicking “change user”. It preserves the session but offers another, very similar looking, screen where the keyboard can be opened.

Thanks. So you too can’t open the keyboard on the lock screen?

AFAIK pressing that “change user” button opens SDDM; I want to open the keyboard on the lock screen, not in SDDM.

now i can open it there, before not. I tried several keyboards and don’t know which change is responsible that I can use it now.

Considering that it’s working on the SDDM (whatever it means), your MR might look differently though, so I propose that you can at least test the SDDM.

BTW. I’ve a toggle for wayland / X11 activated and use usually X11.

Yes, the bug only affects Wayland, not X11.

Just to chime in, I can reproduce the problem on my wayland session, and I’m sure the bug is still very much active and confirmed.

The last comment from @ngraham on the bugtracker issue was

Eventually once the new virtual keyboard is implemented, I’ll push for something like that to get implemented.

Maybe he can provide a quick update on how things are going?
