When will Kdenlive feature AI ?

I’ve been using Kdenlive for quite some time now, and I think it would be interesting to have AI functions built in to keep up with the competition.

There are supposed to be people who can think for themselves, simply because they are intelligent. I suspect they don’t need artificial intelligence.

What would you like AI to do in Kdenlive?

For me, I would like to AI to generate some intermediary images to help with better transition effects.

Those are increasingly rare. They’re on the Svalbard list by now. The Flynn effect …backwards era.

All filmmakers who earn their money with a video editor always want or need to be one step faster and more modern than the others. But let’s be honest: Who among the highly active professionals really uses Kdenlive? Kdenlive is for creative people who want to create something themselves. They want to express themselves, realise their ideas, say something. And above all for people who love opensource and accept certain compromises in return. And they all want a video editor that works well and reliably. I wouldn’t mind a bit of AI, I don’t have to use it. But if the development of AI comes at the expense of the quality of the other functions - then I certainly wouldn’t want it. Kdenlive is very good, but it still has many issues that are much more important than implementing AI.

I’d not heard of that - but it sounds like an(other) expression of Goodhart’s law :slight_smile:

I am already really missing the Golden Years when ‘AI’ was still a dirty word though, very evidently synonymous with over promising and under delivering - when all the self-appointed ‘AI researchers’ stopped calling themselves that and instead claimed, far more honestly, to be doing “search and optimisation” …

But here we are, with it back to being an almost utterly meaningless buzzword getting slapped on almost every product by Marketing Professionals regardless of what they actually do.

So you’re going to need to be a bit more specific about how you think we’re not Keeping Up With The Competition in some way that’s meaningful to you - unless this isn’t actually a feature request and you just want someone to ask the LLMs “how do we keep up with the competition?” for a few cheap laughs?
