Why is my Dolphin partially unstyled despite using a Plasma global theme?

Hiya! I have been using Linux for a few years now, but haven’t messed with themes and styles too terribly much. As you can see in my screenshots below, my Dolphin file manager is missing some styling after applying a global theme. I am currently running Kubuntu 22.04, my KDE Plasma is version 5.24.7, and the theme I am using is the Alba Global Theme by zayronXIO. Most notably in Dolphin, the viewing area/background is a stark white, which departs from the theme’s specifications. In the “Details” view mode, only even-numbered rows get the presumably proper styling (a dark background with lighter, legible text). Also, the folder icons seem to be the default, rather than the theme’s icon. I have tried rebooting the system a few times after setting the theme and tinkering with the styles a bit.

I have done some research, and I understand that Dolphin is supposed to fetch the theme colors from the kdeglobals file. In that file, I have:

Under [KDE] I just noticed that ColorScheme was set to Breeze, so I tried changing that to Alba but it hasn’t had any effect. Perhaps I need to reboot, but I don’t think this was the issue. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hiya! Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I did try a reboot following setting the [ColorScheme] to Alba (not sure if this is necessary or not, it seems like something the theme’s associated script would have taken care of, but I tried it just in case) and it hasn’t fixed the issue.

Ok, sorry I can’t help much more, on Plasma 6 so I can’t try it out and see if I get the same issue or get it working.

That’s an issue in the theme.
Please report it to the author of the theme.

It must have miss to define a color for its dark variant for some roles.
You can see the filenames have a correct color for a dark theme.

Generally if it works in breeze, then it is a bug in the other theme.

Actually, I went and double-checked… even when switching to the Breeze Dark theme, my Dolphin background is still the blinding white!

And I just remembered something strange that happened after installing and switching to Alba: I went to open Dolphin, only to find it missing from my Avalon menu entirely. I tried launching it from the console, and it couldn’t be found at all, so I had to (re?)install the Dolphin snap from the Discover Software Center.

I don’t know if this lends any clues about what potentially happened.

You said you’re on kubuntu. How come you’re using a snap version of dolphin?

When I tried to install Dolphin via the command line, it said there’s no installation candidate, so I used the Discover software center to install it, and it said it’s a snap. But I went ahead and uninstalled it, and edited my repositories using the Software and Updates center. (Somehow, universe had been disabled…?!) Found Dolphin with no problem after that, and this version is thankfully working just fine! Thanks for the hint.
