I just saw how huge skanpage is. Meanwhile it is the only one with a Flatpak on Flathub and generally seems better maintained.
(I think Skanlite was a Fedora Flatpak which may be optimized)
As a comparison, Firefox is 260MB big, everything bigger than a browser needs a good explanation I think.
the naps2 .deb is only 16MB and works a lot better than skan_
The flatpak, being more self-contained, includes sane drivers and scanning libraries, among other things, not counting any separate runtime flatpaks it depends on. The actual application itself is not large. Skanlite as a flatpak would be of a similar size.

Thanks, so it really is just a packaging issue. I guess the Fedora Flatpak runtime has the sane things included.
Flatpak really needs modular runtimes…
They already have them, and are well utilized. but perhaps there isn’t one for Sane for some reason (I do not see one after a brief search.)
Actually, I see that Xsane includes sane drivers internally as well. I suspect that this may be less bloated than having a separate runtime, perhaps?
Actually, it is sort of necessary to do it this way, it seems.
