why is text system this complex

the usual way of doing text in most video editors is you make a text block on timeline and edit it quickly in a tab, and if you want a certain style you just edit one and copy paste it or make templates etc…

but on kdenlive each text is a clip on project bin, you cannot just duplicate blocks on timeline you have to create a whole new clip just for another text, and if you want to quickly edit text you have to open a whole window which is annoying if you have many texts in the project

why is it like this and whats the benefit over other methods done by other editors?

it seems complex for no good reason and even if theres a reason i believe most of us prefer the normal method

like its so annoying i might have to switch to other editors its that bad

No you don’t. Right click on the “text” clip you want to duplicate and choose… well, “Duplicate” from the menu:

Kdenlive’s documentation is your friend!

Hi @simply-zaki, and welcome to the forum and community.

It has to do with how Kdenlive was conceived and built in the early days. It has worked so far (and still does, imo) and there was no urgent need to spend development resources on rewriting the whole approach. We know about the shortcomings and that other video editor applications do it differently. But we are a small team and other topics have a higher priority.

There was an attempt to improve the title editor during a GSoC a few years ago but unfortunately it didn’t come to fruition.

The beauty of open source is that anyone and everyone can contribute and make things better. If you know someone who could take this on or if you want to set a bounty for it, feel free to pursue this to improve it for all.

yes but point still stands thats a clip for each text
