Wrong timestamp shown

I’m new to DigiKam and might miss something. So hopefully someone can help me with this.

I currently have many JPG files which show the wrong timestamp in the Album view and are also grouped on this date in the dates view. Like one image which is shown with year 2023, but all the EXIF timestamps are from 2015. I used the stat tool on the file and it shows this:

Access: 2025-10-25 20:43:38.810417115 +0200 
Modify: 2015-12-25 19:29:55.000000000 +0100 
Change: 2025-10-25 20:35:05.083798164 +0200 
Birth: 2023-07-29 18:04:19.106177442 +0200

So it looks like digikam uses the Birth timestamp from the file instead of one of the EXIF timestamps. This is what exiftools outputs for timestamps and it does not seem to see the birth time:

This leads to too questions (at least):

  1. Where can I configure what timestamp which is used? Under Settings->Configure digicam…->Views the “Show camera creation date” already is selected.
  2. The “Adjust Time Date” tool only allows to change the file modification date. Searching with google there are many comments about it supporting changing the file creation date. But the current version and its help only show “File last modified”. Other suggested tools like ‘touch’ also do not support changing this birth timestamp. Any suggestions.
