Xsane install fails

Hello,
I am on Tuxedo OS Wayland, up to date. I am trying to install Xsane from Discover, but it says only “Dependency resolution failed” and nothing else.
I am using a CanoScan Lide 220 scanner. I should note that this scanner and this software worked OK on this same hardware half a year ago, on a then-current Tuxedo OS. I do not know why the software is no longer on my system and why it is not installing.
Is there another software that may work? I also tried Skanpage, but, although it installs fine and starts ok, it does not see my scanner…

Thanks.

i settled on naps2 (available as a .deb) for my needs on kubuntu, but skanpage is also working… i have the 200 version of that same scanner.

perhaps reinstall skanpage to fix any broken dependencies and/or make sure you don’t have any other scanner process using the device.

i also had good luck with document scanner from discover (comes as both a native and flatpak in kubuntu 24.04).

i did not find any need to install the xsane package, perhaps back that out and just try one of the other scanner app i mentioned.

I think the problem is simply that Xsane has not been actively developped for 5 years, as shown by its gitlab.

Tuxedo OS is based on Ubuntu; PPAs are developed at Launchpad, where there has been no activity on this project since 2014.

Ubuntu being derived from Debian, it appears that Xsane is still available on bookworm, but there too there seem to be problems

There is no official driver for your scanner listed on the Canon support

Your scanner is listed at SANE so it should work without difficulty with skanlite and skanpage.

If not, you can still use the vuescan option.

Nah, Xsane worked fine on Tuxedo OS 2 and, not sure but i think, the current Tuxedo OS 3 is still Ubuntu 22.04 based. The upcoming Tuxedo OS 4 will be 24.04.
Because the Upgrade from 2 to 3 failed for me (on Tuxedo Hardware) and all the support could do was wish me luck with a fresh clean install I directly switched to Arch (but don’t get me wrong I am grateful they upstream things. :slightly_smiling_face:)

And now on Arch, that is not known for otherwise old packages, Xsane still works for me.

A apt install xsane from commandline would maybe reveal the exact dependency culprit, but only if you do not find a alternative that works for you.

Hello,
It turns out that the problem was with the libpoppler-glib8 library, I had to reinstall it from the console. This library is used by Wine as well, and it has a bug that breaks something, so it needs reinstallation when something else needs it. That is all I can really say about it, I am no expert.
Anyway, now xsane and skanpage both work, so this topic can be closed.
Thanks for all the responses.
