One of the accessibility programs I liked to use when gaming on Windows was Yolomouse to help me find my pointer in the chaos of gaming as my eyesight isn’t as good as it was in my twenties and thirties. I’ve looked for a substitute over the years and I’ve never been able to find one that works in games.
Recently I swapped to KDE from Gnome as I was having another unrelated problem in Gnome and noticed KDE has an accessibility feature called “Shake to find pointer” that works in full screen games and is exactly what I’m looking for to help me find my mouse while gaming.
Unfortunately the mouse shrinks back down quickly and only has an option for size. Does anyone know where the config file is for this feature and how to permanently enable the magnification? Also an alternative program like yolomouse would work too.
I’m not sure if I understand this right, do you just want to have a bigger mouse cursor permanently? Because for this you can just open System Settings, go to “Appearance & Style” / “Colors & Themes” / “Cursors” and you will find a setting to control pointer size.
I don’t think there is a setting to extend the “Shake to find” duration, but you can basically just keep shaking to keep it going (and growing)
I recommend checking out the “Track Mouse” desktop effect, which in my opinion is actually better than the “Shake Pointer” accessibility setting.
It rotates two concentric lines, one dark gray and one light gray, causing the mouse to always have contrast in any background.
Yes that’s correct I’d like a bigger mouse cursor permanently. I’ve already set the cursor to a larger size and this works perfectly for most things. But when I start a game the game takes over the cursor and ignores the system settings. When I use the Shake to find pointer the system takes control back from the game and makes the cursor large again for a couple of seconds.
So what I’m looking for is the configuration file that controls the duration of the Shake to find pointer feature and set it to infinite so that a game window will nolonger shrink my mouse cursor down to something the game designer can see but I cannot.
That sounds great but when I search “Track Mouse” in the system settings I get zero results can you give more detail on where this setting is?
Ok I found the setting under Desktop Effects > Track mouse. and the circles overlay ontop of the game. but similarly to the shake issue they are only shown temporarily. Can you point me to a config file to toggle it on permanently so I don’t have to hold down two extra keys while trying to use WASD to move around.
It’s supposed to be a toggle, not a hold-to-work thing.
Maybe it’s some custom behavior that only happens in fullscreen games, or a bug?
after changing the hotkey from ctrl+meta it’s now toggling on/off I’ll give it a try and see if it helps more than the larger cursor
So I’ve played around with the track mouse feature and it’s an ok temporary solutions I would still like to know where the configuration file is for the Shake to find pointer as I would like to test that solution further.
