Zoom-out for Face Thumbnails

Hey,
I am playing around with the face detection feature of digikam and I really like it.
After using it for a while, I however noticed that the face thumbnails is always very zoomed in. (As is expected when using the actual marker for it.) This however, makes it hard to confirm the labels.

See for example the following picture of wax figure Barack Obama. (For increased anonymity.) The image quality is not very good for the thumbnails marked in red. Thus, it is not immediately clear if this is the same person or not. For confirmation you need to open the actual image, and you cannot confirm using the thumbnail directly.

In my library this case occurs somewhat often, and is especially annoying when checking labels of people with similar faces. (Twins, siblings, family in general.) With the current design, most of the image context is erased. Including a little bit more of the surrounding would make it clear when, where, and why the image was taken. I therefore would like the option to zoom-out the face and included more of the image neighborhood in the thumbnail.

Something like this.

Hi @jan.sende,
We’ve fixed this in the upcoming 8.7.0 release. The face thumbnail will include an extra 12.5% of background on each side of the detected face rectangle.

Cheers,
Mike
