hello
i’ve created a project and made subtitles…
the thing is that there is some bug that causes the last subtitle to be on the center of the screen and not at the bottom…
do you know of this bug? i can’t find a way to lower it…
i’m using the latest version of kdenlive on ubuntu… [24.08.3]
i really want to complete the project and would appreciate assistance…
btw
even if i choose custom design it is the same… not at the bottom… sometimes it jumps to the correct place but then returns back to the center…
if i will install ubuntu fresh again there is a good chance it will be solved?
by the way… i haven’t tried english subtitles. just hebrew ones… maybe i should try…
I don’t think you need to install Ubuntu fresh for that.
First, try the latest version 24.12 just released today. Not really needed, but in case you want to make absolutely sure for a clean and fresh install, look at these folders and delete them.
Go to the Kdenlive download page and select the appimage or the flatpak version.
It takes time for the flatpak to arrive in the respective app stores/centers/whathaveyou of your distro. So, if you cannot wait, this is the way to get the latest release immediately
Too bad the issue is not fixed in the latest version. So, you need to wait for the bug you reported is fixed. I don’t think deleting folders helps in this case …
lately i’ve switched to manjaro linux because i had many problems with ubuntu…
i’ve tried to downgrade kdenlive just to get the same results of the subtitles being centered…
how could it be?
maybe the problem is just with this specific kdenlive file?
can i copy the timeline to another file or something? if yes, is that simple to do?
There’s a bunch of niggles and bugs in the current subtitle code, and I’m currently working my way through them, but this isn’t one that I’ve ever seen.
When do you see this happen? In the project monitor while editing, or only when viewing your video after rendering? And are you ‘burning’ your subtitles into the rendered video, or exporting a separate subtitle file?
Does it only happen in that one project, or if you create another very simple example project does that do it to?
You seem to be the only person this is happening for, so your “how to reproduce” instructions in the bug (which is essentially just “use subtitles → see they are broken”) doesn’t help the rest of us reproduce it.
There’s Something Special about your system or project, and fixing this starts with figuring out what that is …
thank you for replying. sorry for the time it took me to answer… i was busy with myself…
do you want me to upload a screenshot of the problem or perhaps a video of it?
i’m not wokring a lot with video editing, but until now it happened only in one kdenlive file… not sure why only one of them… since it happened i stopped editing because i need the project that i’m working on first…
anyway it happens only at the last subtitle of this file. and in the project monitor… it is also exported centered… and yes. i’m burning it…
and yes… only in that project… i haven’t tried to create another file yet…
recently i’ve switched to manjaro… just plain kde manjaro…
can i add a link to an example video to this forum? i just think that if i will create one it will help to some degree.
I don’t need to see a screenshot, I can visualise what you’re describing - I just don’t see any logical reason it should be happening, unless you’ve somehow explicitly set a position for that subtitle.
If you can create a very minimal project that reproduces it - for example with just a (built in) colour clip and some subtitles, then please share that project file on the bug tracker. There isn’t really any way I can debug this if I can’t make it happen myself.
Which file? I don’t want the rendered video or screenshots of it - I want a bare bones project file (and the .ass subtitles file that goes with it) that makes this problem happen in the current kdenlive appimage - your current project file is of limited use to me if it depends on several GB of your source clips and I can’t actually run tests with it.
Then please check that first. If you can’t reproduce it in a very simple and minimal example with the current kdenlive appimage release (not any other version available for your distro) then that might help you see what’s gone wrong in your Problem Project - but if you can that gives us something we can actually test.
There’s no rush if you can’t do this “today”, but right now you’re the only one having the problem, so you’re the only one who can do anything to investigate it and narrow it down to something actually debuggable.
Which file?
i meant the kdenlive file. i don’t have a subtitle file as the project is really simple and short. just a few subtitles. and small size of the source videos in low HD resolution.
sorry for the lack of knowledge. i think i don’t have appimage at the moment as i installed the last version from the manjaro repository. but i did tried the file from the kdenlive page which gave the same problem back when i used ubuntu…
let me do some experiments with a new file…
it could have been wonderful to try to copy the timeline to a new file… i’m not sure if you told me if it is possible or not or even if it is effective or not…
have a good day or evening.
btw. my name is Ron as well
If you use the current stable appimage, when you save a project with subtitles, you’ll get a myproject.kdenlive file and a myproject.ass file.
If you can reproduce it in a very minimal new project, it’s those two files that we want to see. Copying the timeline from your old project doesn’t help, because that will still depend on all your private clips (which we don’t want because they are huge and not relevant to identifying issues with the subtitles).
