Cannot move desktop icons/folders between displays-Windows move no problems

Hi,

I am new here and am not quite sure where t post this.

Is it a bug or my own doing?
–good question, I don’t THINK I did anything to cause this but I am not 100% sure.

I did the last update of KDE offered by my distro and everything seemed fine until a few days later when I decide to save a URL to my desktop.

–this always results in the link being saved on my main display, I then move it to the 2ndary display–just the way I organize-no other real reason for moving it

–when I tried to move the URL to the secondary display it just went back to the primary as soon as I dropped it-I mean it went right back to the place I saved it to.

SO, as a test I moved it to another area of the same display (not between displays)-no problems

So, I tested a folder and same issue–cannot move it from primary to 2ndary display and cannot move any from the 2ndary to the primary.

I did not change anything before or after the Plasma upgrade so I am assuming this is because of the upgrade–but again, I have no clue if that’s true or not.

I need help troubleshooting this as I have never i my 35 years of using PC’s seen this issue no Windows, Mac or Linux regardless of the desktop.

Below is my system info from the info center
Below that is my inxi output

PLEASE help me to troubleshoot this?
I have no experience with these issues.
I am an IT Analyst for Windows 95->11.
I have been dabbling in Linux for about 30 years and 5 months ago I made the plunge into Linux and completely away from Windows.

For this particular issue I have no idea which logs to look at or anything.

tyvm for any and all help

I tried resetting plasma last night and after the reboot I have the same issue except one of my taskbar s disappeared and the other is at the default settings/view.

Just noticed I have exactly the same problem. Can only create icons on my primary desktop, but can move icons around any desktop. I’m unable to move icons between different desktops.

Operating System: Fedora Linux 42
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.16.0
Qt Version: 6.9.1
Kernel Version: 6.15.7-200.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i5-10600K CPU @ 4.10GHz
Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (31.2 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070

This looks like it’s similar to the other issues around desktop icons when plasma 6.4 launched. There’s a large “items on disabled screens” section in my plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc conf file, but all of those icons were deleted and don’t exist on the system anymore.

Blitzing the screenmapping section at the bottom of the config file and restarting plasma just causes all current icons ot also show up there. It’s almost as if plasma is unaware of the monitors when starting so it thinks all of the icons are off screen.

I’m currently holding off on completely destroying the file as I don’t have time to set my desktop up again, but can try and do so in a day or two to see if it helps any.

FWIW I had this exact issue back when 6.4 launched and it was fixed, so it might be a regression?

I think it was reported here: 507060 – Unable to drag desktop files between monitors

TY meven. You also addressed one of my posts on the Endeavour community forum.

THIS, is a great relief.
I thought it was something I did.
NOW, I have some hope this will be resolved without me having to re-install everything.

Cheers.

Resolved a couple of weeks ago. With KDE framework update 6.1.7
