Follow-up to this problem which is not resolved at the moment: +1 frame latency on moonlight only on wayland, cannot turn off vsync?
While trying to figure out if tearing is working on my laptop (mentioned in the topic above) I learned it may not be working on my desktop (specs below) either.
On my desktop, I ran qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin showDebugConsole and enabled the compositing effect (showcomopsiting) to check if tearing is working. On different fullscreen games both linux native and with proton, the “compositing” text stays on screen. I made sure vsync is off in all game settings. Does the text staying on screen mean the application is not using tearing? If yes, why am I unable to enable screen tearing? I have a single monitor connected over displayport.
This appears to not be a recent regression, I booted an old system state with Plasma 6.4.5 and it showed the same behaviour, compositing text stays on fullscreen games.
