DigiKam SlideShow Image Collection

Hi there, is there any chance in DigiKam to create an image collection by drag&drop from albums/folders in a way that I can put the images into a manual sorting order with the goal to play a slideshow with captions? I couldn’t find anything helpful so far. Thank you, Steffen.

After some investigation, I’d like to suggest introducing virtual albums (vAlbums) in digiKam. These albums would not manage image files themselves, but rather contain references (links) to existing photos. vAlbums could support nested sub-albums and offer various sorting options, including manual sorting.

In my opinion, this would be a very useful feature to allow users to create free-form collections of photos — without relying on tags, metadata, or physical folder structures.

I have raised a similar question at Digikam doesn't see its own symlinks. Reading the manual suggests that digikam (under Export to Local computer) can create symbolic links “to avoid duplicate files”. Yes it does, but the trouble is that digikam seems unable to see those links as “images”, unlike several other viewers such as Adobe Bridge, IrfanView, XnView MP, Krita, Handy Viewer, ImageGlass.

If the feature worked as suggested in the manual, I think it would satisfy your requirement. But it has not worked for me, at least not without having recourse to ImageGlass etc.
