I can’t search anything in discover because if I do it crashes immediately
need more info… distro, desktop… etc.
I’m using Kubuntu.
Ubuntu: 22.04
Kde: 5.24.7
Theme: Dracula
Hi - have you been prompted to submit a crash report when this occurs?
Have you tried opening Discover on a fresh user account, without any custom-installed theming (just to rule out something off with an installed global theme or something like that)?
weird coincidence perhaps but my firefox theming got broke from the update today and i found it had defaulted to the dracula theme.
weird.
maybe not use that.
1 question - No
2 question - Never tried. Should I try to open it in a virtual machine?
I changed to the default theme but it didn’t fixed
try running plasma-discover
from a command line and report the output here.
fwupd: Device not supported: System Firmware No releases found: Device System Firmware does not currently allow updates: Cannot install update when not on AC power
kf.newstuff.core: Could not find category “121”

org.kde.plasma.libdiscover: Couldn’t find a category for “fwupd-backend”

there might be more than one thing going on here
for category"121" thing see this thread
def you should plug in your laptop so it’s on AC power and maybe let the firmware update
I fixed error 121 but discover keeps crashing
fwupd is an open-source daemon for managing the installation of firmware updates on Linux-based systems, developed by GNOME maintainer Richard Hughes. It is designed primarily for servicing the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface firmware on supported devices via EFI System Resource Table and UEFI Capsule, which is supported in Linux kernel 4.2 and later.
your device is “not supported” so discover is not able to update the firmware, and even if it did, it would need to be on AC power to do so.
when you say discover keeps crashing, it’s unclear if you are able to open discover at all or not.
if you can open the GUI and go to settings you will find a section called Firmware Updates with boxes checked… uncheck those boxes.
Although I’m able to open discover and download things I can’t use the search bar. By the way, thanks for the help
From the below, it looks like this might be a Kubuntu issue - possibly something that needs to be patched in the older LTS version (note that 22.04 is no longer the most recent LTS) in order to still be able to use the current “Get New Stuff” features, which is what these lines seem to be indicating trouble with:
Thanks so much!
