I am running Kubuntu 24.04 LTS and upon trying to install a theme; I get the error message Installation of /tmp/fiJDCM-Edna.tar.gz failed: Could not install dependency: 'kns://colorschemes.knsrc/api.kde-look.org/1158510'
. Help would be appreciated!
Hereâs the color scheme. Put it in ~/local/share/color-schemes.
https://store.kde.org/p/1158510/
If the directory does not exist, then it OK to create it.
âlocalâ is a hidden directory where you can find color-schemes (good to add to your Dolphin bookmarks).
~/.local/share
~/.local/share/color-schemes
Lolz looks like nobody here has a clue today
Naw, just all of us needing
new spectacles, maybe
Worksfineâ˘ď¸ in Arch⌠jeez your Ubuntu systems*âŚ
*(Allegedly Arch users have to fight every day with their systems that break every milisecond and do know the inside-outs of everything because they are super-nerds, yadda -FUD- yadda, if one takes a look in the forum itâs quite the opposite, you have to have a master degree in GNU/Linux to use Ubuntu-based distros . Seriously a casual-normal user needs to create an account on kde.org and be told to put files in some directory under ~/.local/share/
for a theme to work?)
A clue? No, apparently posting to put the colorscheme in ~/.local/share/color-schemes been community flagged. No idea why.
The themes website that serves the Get New Stuff tools is jank, and randomly so. It isnât specific to any distro. I have seen it on Fedora, neon, Kubuntu, and Endeavour.
That Edna global theme installs for me just fine here on neon, fwiw. Today, at least.
I guess that a typo is enough.
So is suggesting that the user can create the directory if it doesnât exist. Useful if the GHNS tools are broken or otherwise not working as expected.
Actually starting with @dzon saying the color scheme should go into an incorrectly typed folder: ~/local/share/color-schemes instead of ~/.local/share/color-schemes
Obviously that one was missed by the curator, who removed other posts saying âyes, do thatâ and âsure, make that folderâ withut seeing it was wrongly typed.
as claydoh admitted, just need new glasses maybe
Look again, with your glasses on⌠Actually yours was the original typo and the only one missed
Maybe an edit to stop noobs creating a new tree for their Plasma configs.
Ah, ok. Yeah, overlooked it. Thought it was about the nude tartigrade.
Correction:
~/.local/share/color-schemes
Donât forget the dot (.) in front of local
.
Yeah, completely missed it. My bad.
Have the same problem here and try what was said here but problem is not solved
If you put the colorscheme in the right directory it should work.
Try something different.
I have a scheme here you can try - first of all, copy this text to your clipboard. You do this by hovering the mouse over the text in the top right corner, you will see a âcopyâ icon appear. When you click that, it will say âtext copiedâ.

So 2 ways to approach this, I like Dolphin but you can just open KonsoleâŚ
So try this:
Open Dolphin, press F4 to get Konsole in a window in Dolphin. If that doesnât work, then just open Konsole.
Type (use TAB to autocomplete to avoid any typing errors):
cd ~/.local/share/colo
(HIT TAB and select color-schemes
)
touch PrimaryD.colors
If you have Dolphin open, it should follow terminal and show you like this:
Bookmark this folder (put it inside another folder called âPlasmaâ to contain hidden folders relating to Plasma).
So now you can use the mouse to open that with Kate.
Or you can replace âtouchâ with âkateâ:
Summary
press your keyboard UP arrow, Press HOME (go to start of line) and tap DELETE key 5 times to delete âtouchâ.
Or you can press UP, HOME, then Alt+arrow right, then Ctrl+W to delete the wordâŚ
Now you can type âkateâ
and hit ENTER.
Next, CTRL_V to paste the text - save (Ctrl+S then Ctrl+Q).
You can now quit Dolphin (Ctrl+Q)
Now open your menu and type âcolorâ and you should find your new scheme in there. It will be at the top, because the name is â0001â preceding it. I use numbers to sort the files⌠as you see I now have a duplicate:
I cannot think of any reason that this will fail - so you can now manage your color scheme by:
- Copying the text and creating the text.color file
- Downloading the text.color file and moving it to your colorscheme folder.
To be more precise my problem occured after upgrade from 24.04 to 24.10
My problem is not color-schemes i think.
Cause i have the folder. It donât work for a global theme download only other like icons, windows decoration etc⌠works
So, what specific Global Theme or other theme element is not installing?
Being Kubuntu, or even Plasma 5 to Plasma 6 shouldnât matter, for color schemes at least.
If it is from a Global Theme, the error message will point to the KDE Store website for the individual component that is either not available, or the store is having a hard time sending to you, just like in the OPâs issue.
The URL will be storeDOTkdeDOTorg/p/some-numbers-seen-in -the-error.
For example. from the OPâs error:
You can either try installing the individual component from
the Colors section of System Settings
OR Downloading the file from the website, extract the archive, and use the Install from File
button.
OR move the .colors file to ~/.local/share/color-schemes/ (creating the dir if it does not exist)
